I have recently download some avi files from Limewire but they are not supported in windows media player. I cannot see the video and there is no sound when I am trying to play the video. I am getting a error message C00D1199 appears.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Well its you're limewire to download the avi files they are nearing 60% chance it's encoding using DivX Codec http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/codec/.
If you want to identify the codec actually you require to run the file, you can Gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/. You can post the value in the video 4CC box it will indicate you the playback codec short code name.
