| WMP11 High CPU USAGE
I gave up on Windows Media Player 11. Soon after I installed it on my XP machine, I noticed that my CPU usage spikes between 50% and 100%. It stays no lower then 50% at any given time. I tried turning off file sharing and that didn't work. The only thing that seemed to work is using END PROCESS to shut down the file wpmnetwk.exe file and then my usage went to 0%. That was only temporary though since the process autostarts right back up. I use my PC's to share files and didn't have this problem until I upgraded to WMP11. So on a hunch, I rolled back to WMP 10. Low and behold the problem went away and my CPU usage went back to normal. Something about how they have configured Windows Media Player 11 is causing CPU usage spikes. I don't know about you guys but having WMP11 is not worth my CPU constantly running at 50% and shortening the life of it. Until MS fixes this issue I am staying away from WMP11. |

| RE: WMP11 High CPU USAGE
OK, update guys. I tried everything in terms of suggestions etc. So far the only thing that has worked was reverting back to WMP 10. As soon as I reverted back and starting Media Connect 2, my CPU usage went back to normal. WMP 11 is just a buggy mess. "SteelDog" wrote: > I gave up on Windows Media Player 11. | Re: WMP11 High CPU USAGE
Ever since i upgraded to WINDOW MEDIA PLAYER 10 (? or is it 11? I'll ck be sure), whenever i use it to simply play an audio mucic cd, IT SLOWS DOWN THE REST OF MY PROGRAMS. I'm running on: Windows xp pro 2002 sp2 intel(R) Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz, 0.98 GO of RAM I can have a dozen different programs running just fine w/ System Idle CPU at upper 90's, until i Play an audio cd. Then instantly the System Idle CPU's drop to around 50% with WMP taking up most of the rest of CPU's. This happens the same even if the only thing open is WMP. If i have a dozen programs open and running, as well as WMP open (but not actually playing anything on WMP) then the CPU's are normal, upper 90's for System Idle and all programs run great. So it is ONLY when i actually PLAY something on WMP. (P.S. Everything was perfectly fine - UNTIL I UPGRADED WMP) Any suggestions very welcomed. |
