That forum was very helpful. I had the same problem as described by the first poster there. I installed All in 1 6.0.3.0 and finally after 2 months of going crazy trying resolve this problem it's fixed. This may be the No Mono Sound issue being > reported by some here: Hmm, mono might indeed be the culprit. I've made few experiments and noticed that: .. Record something with standard Sound Recorder and save as mono WAV - WMP cannot play the file. The slider doesn't move. If you click stop and then again play, WMP pops up an error message saysing that "The enumerator has become invalid" Clicking on the Web Help options shows a page that says: You've encountered error message 80040203 while using Windows Media Player. Additional information is not currently available for this error. Saving the same recording as a stereo WAV and WMP can play the file just fine. .. Mono mp3 files play at twice the speed. > Strangely, dropping back to version 10 does not solve for others I have never installed WMP11. I think WMP tried to "update" to 11 once, but I've cancelled it ~immediately. I don't think it managed to install anything in the few seconds it ran. I've performed some seamingly meaningless dead-chicken dances and suddenly WMP10 plays mono again (mono mp3s play at normal speed and i can finally watch Deutsche Welle streams) !!! Relevant dead-chicken pas might include: .. Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Hardware tab -> Audio Codecs item -> Properties button -> Properties tab then go through the list and click Properties button for each, if Settings button is active on the dialog, click it too. Don't actually change anything in any dialog, just click through. .. Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Voice tab -> Test hardware ... -> follow the wizard I also messed with WMP Tools -> Options -> Devices -> Speakers (as was advised somewhere in this or some other similar thread) - to no effect. I tried that before a few times with no effect as well. It was and now again is set to its default value of Default DirectSound Device. I don't think it's pertinent, but I think it should be mentioned as one of the things I touched between mono-not-working and mono-working states. I also messed with the SoundMAX control panel applet (part of the driver that came with the hardware (asus pundit-r barebones on-board sound, ad1888 based)). Again, nothing I didn't try before, and nothing that I think might be pertient. SY, Uwe -- uwe@ptc.spbu.ru | Zu Grunde kommen http://snark.ptc.spbu.ru/~uwe/ | Ist zu Grunde gehen |

I had WMP 11 - I uninstalled that via Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs and Windows rolled back to WMP 10 but still no audio with the streaming video - even from a Microsoft site ! As suggested above I went into Media Player / Tools / Options / Devices ( wait for the devices to load and appear in the window ) / Speakers / Properties. The "Sound Playback - Audio Device to use" was was set to "Default Direct Sound Device". I changed this by clicking the drop down arrow and selected the actual sound card installed in my PC - listed as "DirectSound: SoundMAX Digital Audio", then clicked Apply. This instantly cured the problem - hope it does for you :-) |

| thegov - THANK YOU!
thegov, Thank you so much for your 'crazy' fix. I had had this problem for half a year, I think caused by downloading some other codec pack. I looked on and off for a solution to the problem, but yours worked and I genuinely appreciate the help. Others suffering the same problem of Windows Media Player with no volume, give this a try!
