WMP 11 will not play DVDs

Windows Media Player 11 (Ver. 11.0.5721.5145) will not play DVDs, I get
"Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." message come up, I have played a DVD using both
my drives (a 'Pioneer DVD RW DVR-107D' and a 'Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E')
but both come up with this.

I have tried other DVDs and same happens (they were all Region 2 [United
Kingdom] DVDs and my PC is UK).

The error signature is "AppName: wmplayer.exe / AppVer: 11.0.5721.5145 /
ModName: clvsd.ax / ModVer: 3.5.0.1011 / Offset: 00039caf" (I added the '/'
to seperate data clearly).

I run on a 2002 version of Windows XP Professional, using Service Pack 2. I
never got this error when using WMP 10 and all my other DVD players still
play DVDs from the drives.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info - that's a useful problem report, they are quite
rare to see on newsgroups ;-)

If you could first reinstall PowerDVD software, and check if any
change with WMP - then go to Start -> Run and in the box type

regsvr32 clvsd.ax
regsvr32 quartz.dll

See if that makes any difference.

Cheers - Neil

Re: WMP 11 will not play DVDs

I am having the same problem. I've tried both WMP and PowerDVD but neither
will play a DVD. It used to play them but suddenly I can't play any and I
get an error message without a error message code. I tried the suggestion to
run regsvr32 clvsd.ax but I get "LoadLibrary (clvsd.ax) failed". Regsvr32
quartz.dll was successful. But my DVD's still won't play. I've tried
uninstalling PowerDVD an installing again but no success.

Please help! Any idea what is going on?
