Media player 11 doesn't recognize my mp3 player

I’m using Windows Media Player 11 on XP Sp2. Yesterday I bought a new Samsung YP-U2J MP3 player. When I connect it with my PC I can see it in My Computer but WMP is not able to recognize it. Am sure there is no problem with the MP3 Player because when I connect the same with my laptop it works fine with WMP v10 but not on this desktop with WMP 11.

So I thought to revert my WMP 11 to WMP 10 but windows wont allow me to do the same as well. Can you guys please suggest me some workaround for the same? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, even am struggling with somewhat same problem. Though my device is getting detected as MTP device, still I get an error message saying something like this:

“MTP WPD Driver has failed to start. Error 0x80042013.”

I’m not an expert but still I think the MTP device driver is the source of the problem. What you guys think?

Hello Theodore, how did you tried removing WMP 11? Is it from Add and Remove Programs? If yes, you wont be able to do it than ever because it is windows built-in component and cannot be removed from Add/remove Programs. To remove it you need to click “Add and Remove Windows Component” just below Add/Remove Programs in Control panel. Remove it and install WMP 10. Even I faced the same problem with one of Samsung MP player and fixed the issue by reverting back to v10. I guess the problem is with WMP v11, probably it wont support external mp3 players.

Yeah, you seem to be correct buddy. There is compatibility problem with older players and Windows Media Players. Microsoft must work on this.
