reinstall WMP10 after WMP11 rollback, no more MTP

Hello,
I rolled back from WMP11 to WMP10 and my MTP device (Samsung YP-Z5) no
longer works in MTP mode (does work in UMS mode). I've reformatted and reset
the device without any luck. I'm guessing that the roll back caused a problem
with the MTP driver. How can I repair this or reinstall WMP10 altogether? I
tried downloading WMP10 for XP (running XP SP2) but I get the error that
"This version of windows media technology is incompatible with this version
of windows." The web link after hitting the details button is broke. Thanks
for any suggestions

RE: reinstall WMP10 after WMP11 rollback, no more MTP

It turns out that Yahoo music installed a WM11 runtime that prevented
upgrading back to WMP10. Removing this solves the problem. Obivously, there
must be a bug in the WMP10 install program that was incorrectly detecting the
version of windows on my machine. And reinstalling WMP10 corrected my MTP
problem.

There are specifc rollback instructions for device users, in the
Readme : Probably you missed off the step "Click Microsoft User-Mode
Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.0.0, and then click Remove"

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ionofthePlayer

Note the readme also mentions disconnecting devices before
uninstalling, perhaps this complicated your uninstall.

You may also want to consider a device firmware update to make sure
there's not some residual incompatibility : http://tinyurl.com/vs27x

Re: reinstall WMP10 after WMP11 rollback, no more MTP

I was going to install the User Mode Driver Pack but was warned that doing so
would alter other programs (Napster client, Cidero and about 8 others I can't
recall. Napster and Cidero were installed after WMP11 but I did not note
whether or not the others were. I did follow the other instructions and did
not have any devices connect. So I guess the User Mode Driver Pack was the
problem.

BTW- WMP11 seemed to work well on my system besides being a little slow
dealing with all the album art and the URGE music store. Unlike another user
that recently posted here, I only had a few file get moved around and
retagged. It would be nice if library management was more customizable. For
example, it would be nice to specify that WMP leave certain tags alone (e.g.
Genre, which are usually incorrect or don't make sense as provided by AMG or
Amazon) when updating media files or importing album art.

The only reason I upgraded back to WMP10 (and switched to Napster since I
can't use URGE anymore) was the ever so important "Convert file as required
by this device" check box, which was lost in WMP11. My collection is 192/MP3
and it takes too long to convert so I settle for less space on my device.
Bring this back and I will revert back to WMP11

Ohhhh god, so now *Yahoo* get to screw up the WMF11, to complicate
everybodys lives ? O well, thanks for the heads up - I don't buy into
online music services, so I'm not currently experiencing al lthis
pain.
