WMP11 won't rip some discs

When I try to rip some CDs, I get the error code C00D10D2. The message says
"Windows Media Player cannot rip one or more tracks from the CD." The Web
Help button takes me to a message that says the error is unknown. _Very_
informative. In this instance, the Error Correction setting for my CD drive
is off.

I have also gotten messages, when I have both the Digital checkbox on for my
CD drive and the Error Correction box on, code C00D11B1, if I remember right,
which says something is wrong with my sound card, most likely the drivers.
However, either way, the music from the CD plays just terrific, with the
Digital setting on for playback. Why can't I rip the music I can play?

My sound card drivers are current.

- Kelly

Same problem here. Very annoying, and no one seems to have ever seen this
problem before.

Same problem for me. Does JMicrosoft actually post any advice on this?

Re: WMP11 won't rip some discs

I'm not sure if the RootKit revealer from www.systernals.com (now a
Microsoft company) will run on Vista, but you might want to check for a
Sony-like, or Sony installed, rootkit. There could be some DRM software on
your PC installed as a rootkit or otherwise, by simply inserting a CD
containing the software into your CD drive. Those software products are
usually designed to prevent or restrict copying not only the CD that it was
installed from but any CD from that label.

Or, your problem could be something completely different. I just thought of
the above because you said it was only some CDs. That sounds very similar
to the behavior of the Sony rootkit.
