WMP 0x8007f00d installation error code

HI,

After failing to install WMP 11, I looked at the log and got the fault code:

0x8007f00d

This is a status user cancelled and I cannot get a solution for this. I also
had problems with IE7.. could they be linked to the registry as I have
recently changed user/domain properties on my PC?

Quite interesting data.

What is the file version on c:\windows\system32\spupdsvc.exe ? Does that
file exist?

Zach,

That file is on my C/WINNT location. The version of the file you mentioned
is 6.2.29.0

Is this an uncommon problem?

Re: WMP 0x8007f00d installation error code

Zach,

I did some more work on this over the weekend. I think its the same problem
as I had with IE7.

I have an error in
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall\KB915865.

The system will not allow me edit this key.... is there any workaround?

Yes, IE7 uses update.exe technology too, so that install would also be
affected.

Can you right-click on it and set permissions?

I never know what 'common' means at the kind of scale you talk about when
you talk about WMP. I think right know I would guess that less than
0.00001% of users are affected by this, but that's still way too many as far
as I'm concerned. *shrug* It's all perspective. But, that being said, I
believe this is the only specific failure case I don't clearly have a
solution in mind for (I might be forgetting something, but I do try to be on
top of this area).

If you rename that file, does that unblock you?

Re: WMP 0x8007f00d installation error code

Zach,

I believe the problem could be linked the the registry. I also cannot
install IE7 beta 3, but had no problems with IE7 beta 2.

Installations seems to stop when it comes to registry, but I have changed
all permissions, and the problem still occurs.

With some apologies for ressurecting an old thread, I'm having the exact same problem as Barryodo - WMP 11 fails to install with an 0x8007f00d error, Windows XP SP2. C:\Windows\System32\spupdsvc.exe exists and is version 6.3.3.0 . Renaming this file does not solve the problem, all that happens is that a new copy is created.

Since I need WMP 11 to play Netflix "instant" movies, this is a problem I'd like to get resolved.

Thanks for any ideas and help,
David G.
