re: Wmp11 won't install, hangs at 80% Updating registry and givees er

OK - those errors mean a) that you need to reboot your system and b) that
you likely have had an overzealous anti-malware application that ended up
brokenly resetting permissions on your system. If you rename the registry
keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMPlayer.OCX
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMPlayer.OCX.7
, and then reinstall, does that get you working again?

We are aware of this issue and will be doing what we can to solve this 3rd
party problem. =\

Re: Wmp11 won't install, hangs at 80% Updating Regsitry and givee

I rebbot 1000 times, did whatever solutions you gave to other in newsgroups
and scan and re scan for spyware (using windows defender and a subscription
to Windows live one care) but always the same.

Also I've tried to rename those registry keys but I cannot do it, looks like
they are locked and I cannot delete or rename it.

I'll appreaciate your help.

Thanks

Right, that's exactly the problem. If you cannot delete or rename those
registry keys, you cannot install the player. =(

Right-click on them, choose Permissions, make sure your user name has Full
Control, close the dialog, then rename the key.

OK, we're a little confused here, but that's OK. Please delete your current
wmsetup.log file. It's just a log file, it's OK to do this this one time.

Then go run the WMP11 installer again.

At this time after it fails, what are the full contents of
c:\windows\wmsetup.log ?

This loosely indicates that your library is corrupt and should be reset -
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary
- if you do that, does this then work better?

I have the same problem with WMP 11. After deleting the wmsetup.log file i restarted the application. the new log file is so long that i am reluctant to post it here...is there a way for me to send the file to you directly?

Wmp11 won't install, hangs at 80% Updating registry and gives error

Just look for "ERROR: " in that file, that'll be your starting point and the
most relevant data.
