| WMP10- Can't Play Streaming Video or .asx Error Code C00D11BD
Greetings to the Guru's, WinXP Home (properly updated). Windows Media Player 10. Lately, I cannot get streaming video's to play in WMP10 using either Firefox or MSIE6. I get the following error: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "mms:")." When I click on more information, I get this: "C00D11BD: Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you encountered this error by typing a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "mms:") to open the file. If you encountered this error by clicking a link on a Web page, the link might not be valid. Error ID = 0xC00D11BD, Condition ID = 0x00000000" My union is holding a convention in Boston and is offering streaming video. The link for this is: http://pointers.mmpros.net/asxfiles-...inlive1056.asx I've tried to view this in both Firefox and MSIE6, but it does not work. If you can help me, I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks for your help. |

That's probably all the information needed to answer this (makes a change I can tell you). The link above uses mms protocol, which rolls over to rtsp streaming in WMP9 and later. That type of protocol uses UDP streams by default, so if you go to WMP menu and find Tools -> Options -> Network : What is the checkbox set to for UDP ? It should be checked for mms and rtsp. In addition, I usually set 'streaming proxy settings' to nothing (Proxy : None) by clicking each of the 3 protocols listed, click Configure and choose "Do not use a proxy server" Those steps in most cases will get you running. Firefox is a bit odd, it can end up starting the WMP6.4 player instead which is separate from any later player and has it's own (similar) settings. To access WMP6.4 player, just Start -> Run and type in mplayer2.exe HTH Cheers - Neil |

I run WMP 10.00.00.4019 and MSIE6, my Windows OS is the Windows XP 2002 Professional Service Pack 2. Prior to encountering the problem I was attempting to play streaming audio. The error text that the player gives me is: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "mms:")." The error code that it gives me is "C00D11BD" and it tells me that the identity is: "Error ID = 0xC00D11BB, Condition ID = 0x00000000" The problem is recurring, it happens every time I try to play any type of streaming media from the web, the particular URL that I was accessing is http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/url/...rty/hinder.asx I've tried about everything that I know how to do(which isn't much since I'm nearly computer illiterate), I did exactly what you said to do, but it still isn't working. Any help you could give me would be great. Thank you. |

I was having this problem as well and finally found a solution listed here: http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#0xc00d11bb Basically, just rename your \Documents and Settings\<your user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media\10.0 folder. When Windows Media Player starts next it will recreate the folder and streaming video will work again. I'm not sure why this works, or what the real problem is, but this fixed the problem for me. |

Any help you could give me would be great. Thank you. Hi, I have tried all the above and cannot play any videos on movietone on AOL. I also cannot get playback on any news stations, such as, CNN, MSNBC, etc. I get the same error message as above. This is frustrating, because this just started. I have always been able to view clips, video, listen to music up until about 3 weeks ago. Nothing has changed on my computer, and nothing was deleted. HELP me PLEASE! |

I'm with Jeni, tried it all and still nothing doing - it was working fine til opening GoogleEarth crashed my PC while watching the stream. Rolled back to WMP 9 and up to WMP 11, nothing, tried registry fix, nothing. Tried IE7, nothing. It works fine on another PC I have here, so must be some corruption in my PC. Anyone got any more clues? Try it yourself at www.cricketon.tv - the 'sample' pages are free and don't work for me either anymore. It's ANNOYING! |

| Fixed it
OK, fixed it. It was a DRM problem, seems I hadn't fully enabled viewing of system files in Windows Explorer (had ticked a couple of 'show hidden files' boxes, but not the right one it turns out). I basically followed the page http://support.microsoft.com/KB/810422 and confirmed DRM folder location via Regedit. Just renamed DRM folder and then followed the Microsoft link (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/...en/indivit.asp) which downloaded a clean DRM folder to my system (I assume) and it then worked. Do Microsoft really sell Windows as a consumer product? They wanted about USD$70 just to have a look at this problem - one they created! If Microsoft made cars I'd get a horse. |

This solution also worked for my WMP 11 which had suddenly stopped playing streams. This is a good one to remember for the next time WMP goes haywire for no apparent reason. |
