    Cannot see subtitles on video

    Hello,
I downloaded English subtitles of an Italian movie from here:
    allsubs
The file seems not to have any extension. However, I can open it with both Word and NotePad and I can read the subtitles, which are perfect -the ones that I need!

When I play the movie, however, they don't show up.
I have Windows 7 in my PC and I used to upload subtitles, to
    convert .srt > .ssa
and also to hard-encode them in my movies.

Can you help me with this file? Thank you in advance!
    Rita

Which movie is it and from where did you download its subtitles. Most of the time if you download it from any website then it is possible that the file may be invalid or corrupt. Have you tried playing the subtitles in VLC player? There is an option where you can insert the subtitles in VLC at the time of watching the same movie.

The film is "I Vicere'" English subtitles. I downloaded them from allsubs.org The file seems not to be corrupted even though it has no extension (I can perfectly read the lines in Notepad and Word when I give it a .SRT extension). I also tried with VLC but no way. Other subtitles in my pc do work.
Thank you anyway for your help.
    Best,
    Rita

It could be possible to embed the subtitles in something encoded with Divx 6 and using the Divx 6 container. Such a video file could be renamed to .avi or other file extention as well. The problem is that almost no software players support the Divx container. You can install the free Divx Player by searching on google and downloading from it.

Re: Cannot see subtitles on video

    Dear all,

    I made it!
I opened the video with a video editor (ULead Studio), then I added the subtitles (to which I gave the extension .srt) and hard-encoded them in a new video file.
It remains a mystery why I cannot see them when I upload them with VLC.
They do not work with VirtualDub either. Maybe the subtitle file is corrupted (I can't convert it to .ssa).

I am very glad I solved the problem, since it was crucial for me to have subtitles (didactic purposes).
Thanks again for you prompt replies!
    Best,
    Rita
