Well its a very simple solution. You have to do some changes in the registry of the windows. But first always remember to keep the back up of the registry in a CD or other storage device. Go to start and then in the search bar type regedit to open the registry editor. After that go to the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\wmplayer.exe, look at the right side and do a right click on the default thing and click on modify. On that type the following command '%ProgramFiles%\Windows MediaPlayer\wmplayer.exe'. Then click on OK. |

I was also having same problem and as per your suggestion i went on with the same steps as suggested by you. Still the windows media player is opening as the 32 bit. After doing the necessary changes i rebooted my system but still getting the same problem. I have to manually set it to the 64 bit every time when I am going to play some songs. |

The information provided here is incomplete. First you must have the authority of the administrator. After doing that unlock some of the important registry keys listed below HKLM\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{cdc32574-7521-4124-90c3-8d5605a34933}\LocalServer32 HKLM\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{45597c98-80f6-4549-84ff-752cf55e2d29}\LocalServer32 HKLM\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{ed1d0fdf-4414-470a-a56d-cfb68623fc58}\LocalServer32 After doing that you have to type the following command in the elevated command prompt '%WinDir%\system32\unregmp2.exe /SwapTo:64' After doing the above things you have to perform the steps given in the 2nd post. Once you have done that then remove all the shortcuts in the desktop and the taskbar. After that set the 64bit edition as the default player during the setup with the administrator rights. |

Thanks for the suggestion. Finally I have solved this problem and I am able to open the 64bit version of Windows Media Player 12 on my Windows 7 operating system. |
