WMP 11 not playing SOME mpg files

I have a collection of video clips all mpg. On my work laptop (winXP) WMP11 will only play about half of them (normal "may not have correct codec" error). On my home PC (Vista) WMP11 runs all these files fine.

I have loaded and unloaded many codec's but none have been able to correct this issue. (CCCP, K-Lite etc.) I have tried to match the settings from my Home PC but still can't get these files to play, over 500 of them.

What is wrong.... I am currently converting on my Home PC all the files that don't work using BlazeMedia Pro from mpg to mpg(MPEG-1).. my Work laptop will play these new files, however, this will take days and days to complete, and then if I obtain more mpg files there is no guarantee I will not have to convert them as well.

What is the answer?

This is on the Home PC (the one that plays this file), on the laptop "DirectShow failed rendering this file". GSpot indicates the same. I have tried to obtain the Arcsoft MPEG splitter for the laptop... downloaded one of their trial softwares hoping this would work.. the software package does now read the mpg file but this does not carry over to WMP (and thus my Jukebox program) - CodecInstaller does not list any "Arcsoft" files on the laptop like it does on the HomePC.

As you can see in CodecInstaller's output, the files are actually in the
KOZ format (so the .mpg extension is incorrect).

According to information on the web, this format is identical to AAC+,
which means that installing the Orban plug-in at
should allow WMP to play the files. , try changing the extension of these files to .aac.

I have tried both options suggested but still no luck.. if the arcsoft filter/decoder can allow them to be played on my HomePC how can I get this file/filter/decoder onto my laptop?

The Arcsoft filter doesn't seem to be available as a separate download,
so it must have been bundled with some other software you installed on
your home PC. It seems to be bundled with TotalMedia, HDHomeRun and
HD-PVR software.

If that doesn't help, you could also search for the arcspl.ax file on
your home PC and copy this file to C:\Windows\System32 on your laptop.
Then, on the laptop, go to Start - Run, type "regsvr32 arcspl.ax", and
press Enter.

Thank you.. almost worked. Tried the software but they didn't help WMP (or my Jukebox program) to play the files although TotalMedia could read and play the files.

tried the Regsvr32 bit and this got WMP to play the file... unfortunately no video only audio, now that I have a little understanding when I get more time I might try a couple more things along the same lines to get the video to work.

I have managed on the HomePC to convert most of the problem files to another version of mpg file that works with WMP on my laptop which will allow me to use the jukebox tonight as planned.
