| Can see but can’t play MP3s from WMP12 on my UPNP LG BD-390 Some history: After getting my BD390 about 2 months ago, I was happy to find out that my BD-390 was capable of streaming media (MP3s) from my Windows Media Player. (I am not happy at all with the Nero streaming feature and do not want to use it.) When I first tried this UPNP feature, it worked immediately… I was using Vista and WMP11. I then wanted to improve my Wi-Fi router and got one that had “N” capability (the bd390 is “N” compatible and N is recommended by LG). All of the other functions of the BD390 still worked (Netflix, etc.) but the streaming from WMP did not work with this N router. While I could see my entire WMP library with the BD390, when I tried to play any MP3 it would show the duration of the song but would not start playing the song. After a few seconds I would then get an error window stating “There may be network congestion!” I reconnected by original router (Linksys WRT54G) and I again could see all and play any MP3 from my BD390. I tried several other new wireless routers and all had the exact problem. I could see all my MP3s but when I tried to play them, I got the “There may be network congestion!” message. Even a new Linksys router would not work, even with over an hour of Linksys level 2 help. I gave up and just continued to use my original router. OK. Here’s the problem/question: I changed to Windows 7 a few weeks ago. This uses WMP12 which also supports streaming to the BD390. I still was using my original WRT54G router. While I could see all my MP3s, they would not play… giving me the “There may be network congestion!” message. (I could see and play any of these MP3s in my PUBLIC Music folder on the BD390!! Just could not get the WMP to stream them.) I tried all sorts of things, including a direct cable connection to the router – still the same non operation and same error message. I upgraded to a new NETGEAR combo DSL modem/ N wireless router – same problem!! Does anyone know how to correct this problem? Does anyone have the BD390 successfully streaming MP3s from WMP12 using Windows 7? Thanks to all… |

Hmm great description - this wll be hard to solve without an actual BD390 device to hand here - but we can suggest some common stuff to check from the WMP side at least, to see if it helps. This page "Which routers are compatible with media sharing?" http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ing.mspx#q20_8 lists wireless and wired routers which have been tested and are known to work well - it sounds like you got on OK with the WRT54G (isn't that wireless N ?) but not the other routers, which is a bummer. Usually that would be enough to isolate the problem if you've tried other routers but definitely had it working with one router. I guess it's just possible you changed other things at the same time as you wired up the WRT54G box, so it's also worth checking on the same web page : "How do I share media, yet prevent others from accessing media items I don't want to share? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ng.mspx#q20_11 "Some of the files in my library do not appear on my device. What can I do?" http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ng.mspx#q20_14 Both of those mention monitored folders - make sure the MP3s are definitely in a monitored folder (press F3 to list which folders WMP checks for newly arrived media files) Also - a lot of people have media on an external / network disk - if you have that, it can be regarded by WMP as a "shared drive" and may need special permissions set to allow for remote access other than just listing the files (which you've already got) : See "Why can't I play files that are shared by one computer but located on different computer?" http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ng.mspx#q20_17 and especially the bits about enable remote content sharing (then walk through the Permissions bits of the document) |

Thanks for your help, Neil. My WRT54G in an old 811g (not N) router that I had connected to a DLS modem. That’s the only combo that I ever could get to work with Vista/WMP11. All other routers or combo DSL modem-routers that I tried would not work & just reconnecting my WRT54 + modem would correct the “May be network congestion” problem every time. With Win7/WMP12 nothing I tried will work properly, even the WRT54G + my DSL modem. Without any software or setup changes to the modem or router. Just the drivers in Win7. My new NETGEAR Modem/router is not on the list but that list is very old… I will try to call NETGEAR soon to see if they might be able to help. My Managed library points to my Music in my user directory. I have this shared with everyone on earth :-) I can see and play videos with my BD-390 that are in the library in WMP12. I would like to temporarily eliminate the router with a direct connection to my BD-390 from my computer but I do not have the proper cable… I have a 50’ cable but need a crossover link. (I tried an Ethernet hub but couldn’t get that to work at all and may not have had that connected properly). Again, thanks for your interest and time… any additional thoughts would be appreciated. Ah OK I was going to bang on about "the router needs to support uPNP like at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play Also, I've got a WRT54G and I hadn't twigged it's pre-N, the "G" is a dead giveaway - I was just coming down with flu when I answered and was a bit addled, so it's taken a while to get back on track as well. You've said that MP3 files cannot be played (over wireless N) but video files pay just fine. Is it possible your MP3 files are store somewhere / somwhow differently on disk than the video files ? Perhaps an external drive ? Or in a different folder ? Most importantly, make sure the MP3s are in a Monitored Folder - by default, My Music is one of those (add some MP3s, can they be seen by the device ?) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ing.mspx#q20_9 I'd also check the permissions on the MP3 folder and compare those to the videos folder(s) you're using. Make sure, if it's an external drive or a network drive, that you've checked the effect of "enable remote content sharing" option in the registry, on this page : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ng.mspx#q20_17 "Why can't I play files that are shared by one computer but located on different computer?" |

Thanks for your help.. I have tried the things you mention without sucess... It doesn't make sense to me and I gave up... I bought an APPLE TV.. Great product!! Works properly.. very nice presentation and selection of all my media. I also prefer iTunes over WMPs.. so my WMP libraries are empty. |
