Windows Media Player not responding

WM Player is not responding when i try to play some AVI Files.
what is surprising is that these particular movie files are playable before
with the same WM Player im using. so i dont know what has been modified in my
system that it is not playing now.

moreover, i tried the other videos i have w/c are AVI also, but they are
playing.
i dont know where the problem is. i opt to try Real Player but it return the
same error.. the program is not responding everytime i play the file.

here are the properties of the file that makes my wm player not responding:
Video
frame width: 624
frame Height: 352
data rate: 8kbps
total bitrate: 136kbps
frame rate: 29frames/second
Audio
bit rate: 128kbps
File
Type: AVI File

im using WM player version 11.0.6002.18111
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

my friends suggests me to use vlc player and it did work fine, but i wanted
to stick to my wmplayer because im use to it and all my files are organise
the way i wanted it to be in my wmplayer.

im a bit surprise how my wmplayer got into trouble when i didnt remember any
system changes b4 the problem happened other than installing a LG PC Suite
III that comes with my lg arena, and the usual windows updates.

any suggestions is much appreciated.. :)

Re: Windows Media Player not responding

At a guess I'm thinking they might be downloaded movies. Most
frequently, those are created using the DivX codec (which isn't
provided by microsoft)

You could download and install the DivX player to provide WMP with
that codec : http://www.divx.com/en/products/software/windows/divx

If there's no luck once that's on board, the GSpot program is useful
to analyse the AVI and determine exactly which codec is needed for
playback in WMP.

You can grab that from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Run the AVi through GSpot and copy/past the audio and video codecs it
lists - we can then find you something to play it back in WMP11.

HTH
Cheers - Neil
