Codec to insert video into Windows Movie Maker

I have few video clips in MOV format as well as images which I need to convert in one video. I was trying to do this in Windows Movie Maker (XP SP3) but whenever I try importing the video, I get an error message saying “Video Mar-May 2009\Video Mar 19, 2009\P1000587.MOV cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.”

I don’t know which codec is talking about and where can I get the same. Somebody pelase help me out. Thank you.

You can get those required codec simply from Windows Updates as well. Just launch Windows update, scroll to Administrative options in left sub menu, here search for “windows update catalog”. Here type Windows XP Codecs. It will search for the same. Once found, just download and install. It should fix the problem.

As far as I know Windows Movie maker wont support .mov format, no matter whatever codec you install. If you want to import it in Movie maker, simply convert it in any other format (best is wma) using any third party video converter tool and then import in movie maker.
