| WMP11 for XP wont play wma, mp3
This is rather strange. As I understand wma and wmv files are specificly designed (or at the very least are meant to) to play on Media Player. For some reason, whenever I try to play a wma file, Media Player 11 helpfully points out that it cannot play the file because it is missing the codec. Further more, wmv files move but no sound comes out. The case of the missing codecs does not stop there but proceeds to crush all my hopes of ever hearing music again by not allowing me to play mp3 files either. I assume that other file types won't play either, however I don't have anyother soundfile types at hand. I have heared that many people running Vista are having problems with WMP11 but I'm running XP! Can anybody help or at least tell me what's wrong? |

What version of Windows XP are you using and SP? Apparently WMP 11 will only run on Windows XP running SP2 installed and later. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling WMP 11 and check the sound drivers are up to date also. I'm running Vista Ultimate and using WMP 11 with no problems with these files. God Bless... :-) |

You could try converting files to "m3u" files which WMP does recognise. I found a website "Switch Sound File Converter" which was provided by NCH Software which lets you download for free and changes most file formats. Its easy to use. You simply add to the list all the files(songs) you want to convert. In the box near the bottom indicate you want to convert to ""m3u" (it gives a whole list) and simply press convert. Store the converted music in your "My Music" folder and WMP picks them up from there. They were in my "Recently Added" Folder when I went back into WMP. Hope this helps. There may be simpler ways someone else can suggest, but I found this to work. Marydoll "Besurkfury" wrote: > This is rather strange. Sadly for the poster, M3U is a playlist file - it's plain text and contains no audio information of its own - it just points to the actual media file location(s) on disk or on the network. Thanks for posting though !
