WMP11 and DLNA

I'm trying to get WMP11 to act as a video server for my DLNA TV (Sony
Bravia KDL40V5500U.

I can get WMP11 to serve up still photos OK and also audio MP3s to the
TV, but when I select a folder that contains video files I'm simply told
"There are no items to display". I've tried the following formats .avi
..ts .mpg .divx .mov .flv .wmv, none of them show up.

Anyone able to serve up video files from WMP11 to any other DLNA
certified TVs?

The WMP11 PC is running XP Pro connected via a 100Mbit/s wired
connection to the TV.

Re: WMP11 and DLNA

Thanks for the reply. WMP11 can see the video files, is associated with
the extension in Windows, has them in its library and can play them
locally without problem. The problem is specifically when trying to use
WMP11 as a DLNA server, and the problem is only with video files, stills
and audio are OK.

Re: WMP11 and DLNA

I have a Pioneer Pro 151FD that is DLNA compliant and it works with WMP11.
I have had some problems, however. One of the main ones seems was that
video files that are not supported by the tv (e.g. dvr-ms) in the folder you
are trying to view will cause an error. In my case, it is "unable to
acquire list." It is also important that the video and audio be acceptable
to the tv. In other words, the resolution and audio codec need to be on the
list of those supported by the tv. You might try setting up one new folder
to share, put one video in that folder, navigate to it with the tv and see
what happens. Once you can get that one to work, mimic the settings to your
main foldler.

Re: WMP11 and DLNA

It sounds like WMP has somehow detected the device only supports a
subset of your media.

Under the Library tab, click the small dropdown arrow, then click
Media Sharing... then your device (Bravia I guess) then Customise...

Ensure Video is selected for sharing, as well as Music and Photos. If
they're greyed out, untick 'Use default settings'. You may need to
restart WMP and/or the TV for this to take effect.

Also ensure you haven't enabled parental ratings or star ratings
filters.

HTH

Re: WMP11 and DLNA

Thanks, good thought, I'll have a poke with WireShark and see if I can
see anything in the conversation from the TV that might give me a clue.
