Media Player 11 encounters a problem playing ASF video files

Hi, I am about to lose my mind.

Can anyone help with this. I am trying to view a movie I have downloaded
from a site, it has a DRM attached I believe. I downloaded a player that they
supply and it is secured to Windows Media PLayer for the DRM.

When I click to play the video in their player, it says Xplayer has
encountered a problem and must close. I have windows media player set as my
default player for all file types. Their player doesn't close but the video
doesn't play.

When I try to open the file in Windows media player 11 directly, it gives me
the message, "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and must close",
and the player closes.

Now I tried going to the temporary folder where the movie file itself is
stored on my computer, when I open the folder where the movie is, it boots my
windows !

I have the lastest updates and security for WMP 11 and I am running Windows
XP Home Addition. I have tried everything under the sun the last week to try
and get this video to play, to no avail. Please HELP !! Thanks in advance...
Dave

Re: Media Player 11 encounters a problem playing ASF video files

Hi Z,

Thanks for your response.

Here's what it says when their player crashes, but remember it doesn't close
their player it just gives me the error message and th4e video doens't play:

AppName: xplayer.exe AppVer: 3.4.0.222 ModName: indiv02.key
ModVer: 11.0.6000.6324 Offset: 00107bbb

Here is the error when I try to open the file directly inside Windows Media
Player 11, this does crash the wondows media player and it closes:

AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 11.0.5721.5145 ModName: indiv02.key
ModVer: 11.0.6000.6324 Offset: 0011205e

When I explore my hard drive and go to the temporary folder where the file
is stored this is the error I get and this also crashes my windows closed:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: indiv02.key
ModVer: 11.0.6000.6324 Offset: 00113e80

I would appreciate any help.. Thanks again... Dave

Re: Media Player 11 encounters a problem playing ASF video files

Hi Z,

This is getting stranger and stranger. I was reading the page you offered
and in step 4 it said to read here about indiviualizing. So I clicked the
link and the security bar came up and said the page wanted to run an activex
did I want it to run?

I clicked allow it to run and my explorer crashed.

Faulting application xplayer.exe, version 3.4.0.222, faulting module
indiv02.key, version 11.0.6000.6324, fault address 0x00106237

Also, I can't find where to go in Windows Media Player 11 to find the place
to get a back up of the licenses. The page says it covers A few Media Player
Versions but WMP 11 is not one of them,

Do you know where to look in WMP 11 for the place to back up the licenses?

How come it keeps saying xplayer has encountered a problem?

Thanks again Z..... Dave

Hi Z, This is a follow up to my post before this.

the contents. The troubled indiv02.key file that is causing the crashes says
access denied can't delete it.

Lord help me its been days and tons of hours doing things, I am slap happy :O

Thanks again ... Dave
