Windows media player not playing video files

Hi, I am a newbie here. I was trying to get windows media player to play a
video on my harddrive, but it seems its not playing. When I select the
file(to play/click it)
Windows media player only plays the audio, but no video. In the left hand
corner on the bottom I can see(a message) acquiring codec then it switches to
Codec acquired. I have(believe) Windows media player 11.

I don't know if I need codecs, but I tried downloading codecs(from this
site) still nothing happens.

Any help would be appreciated, Thx

I have the same problem! I can't figure it out. It's above my experience.
Someone out ther has gots to know what to do???

What file type is it and where did it come from?

If it says acquiring codec then "acquired" thats mostly commonly
reported for the often used DivX video codec.

I'd guess 50-60% chance this will just get it working for playback in
WMP : http://www.divx.com/en/products/software/windows/divx

The software in general is not detrimental, and comes with a codec for
WMP to display DivX and XVid videos in AVI files (and now Matroska
file containers too)
