| Can't delete dead links in media liabery WMP11 Vista
I have WMP 11 for Vista. I have a problem with dead links in my media liabery. When I have deleted files or folders from my hard-drive the titles/folders are still sometimes shown in the library and also on my xbox360. It's impossible to delte the link from the library. Nothing happens when I try to do that. I think this problem is related with the media-sharing to the xnox360. Sometimes it also leaves the whole folder in the library and xbox360. Now I have full of dead links I can't delete. What to do? Help needed. Thanks |

A possibility, download 'Showman' from David Taylors excellent free website, link below. It's a utility that shows you the usage of your hard drive. Run the program and select your 'C' drive, it takes a minute or two to do this and then check to see how much is in the recycle bin. I had the same problem with links showing up to non existent files and it turned out to be the recycle bin was corrupt. It showed empty when viewed, but 'Showman' revealed that I had 25 odd gigs in it. If this is the case the answer is as follows. Control Panel (Classic View) > Folder Options > View > uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files' > Click Yes to the warning message. Computer > 'C' Drive. You'll see a hidden folder called $RECYCLE.BIN > Delete this folder, click 'Yes' or OK to the warning messages, Windows will immediately create a new one, it it doesn't, press f5. You may get a message saying 'Can't delete, file in use' If you do, restart the machine and you will be able to delete it. Recheck 'Hide protected operating system files' in the control panel, it's important that you do this. This came to light for me when using Webroot's Window Washer. A wash was taking forever and showing me files that I knew I had deleted. It seems that if you delete very big files, over 3 or 4 gigs which I had been doing, (Camcorder files), the recycle bin can't cope with it. Thanks Alan but this did not solve my problem. Showman says my Recycke Bin is empty. I think the problem can be more related to that I share the files with my xbox360 because I can see deleted folders on the TV. They are not shown in WMP:s library. There I can only see the deleted files. When I look on the path for the file is show the location it was in before it got deleted. Any other suggestions?
