| WMP10 Video Clip's Crashing and Restarting System
I'm having serious problems with WMP 10.Everytime I play a "Video Clip" and try to resize by dragging my computer crashes and restarts. It usually happens when I enlarge, but now it's doing it when I drag to shrink. This only happens when I play a "Video Clip".This doesn't happen with "Windows Media Audio/Video file" or "QuickTime Movie" or anything else. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hmm your video drivers seem right up to date according to the ATI website, so that probably shouldn't be the issue. http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...aiwradeonx-mce Have you got, or ever installed a codec pack, such as K-Lite or Cole2k? Several versions of those packages have bugs which can result in serious playback problems - though it shouldn't end with your PC restarting (was it just WMP that crashed, or the PC ?) I'd start by removing the codec packs from Add/Remove programs and see if the problem goes away. In the case of AVI files (right-click file, choose properties and see if the file name ends in .avi) have a look at the file using GSpot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to see if you have an appropriate video decoder - and if so, list in your reply what GSpot says is the codec required for playback HTH Cheers - Neil On Fri, 9 Jan 2009 18:53:24 -0500, "Brian" <briani@brian.com> wrote: >I'm having serious problems with WMP 10.Everytime I play a "Video Clip" and >try to resize by dragging my computer crashes and restarts. It usually >happens when I enlarge, but now it's doing it when I drag to shrink. This only >happens when I play a "Video Clip".This doesn't happen with "Windows Media >Audio/Video file" or "QuickTime Movie" or anything else. Thanks Neil, I haven't installed any codec packs that I remember and I couldn't find any in Add/Remove. However I downloaded Gspot and it found my problem. I needed a DivX codec. I really don't know why this caused a system crash but the DivX codec fixed it. Gspot is a nice little piece of software. Thanks so much for your help. I just recently also started have the computer reboot while playing either media player files or streaming vids using media player. The only updates I've had are windows updates which could have included media player updates. I flashed my nvidia card and it didn't help. I did download a K-lite codec pack almost a year ago which I just now removed. I'm going to go back now and try and play media files to see if the computer reboots. I only get an error message occasionally. Not everytime! If this doesn't help I'll be back. Krun |

| Re: WMP10 Video Clip's Crashing and Restarting System If you're rebooting trying to play video, your video card driver would seem to have a pretty serious problem that should be looked into on that level. This is not likely to be anything on the codec or file format level, only the video card driver level. K-Lite has done stupidly bad damage to user's systems and is not something I would trust. -- Speaking for myself only. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
