| WMP 11 adding multiple songs to library
Hi, happy new year. Hope somebody can help me. Running OS XP SP3 and WMP 11. I have a folder of music with subfolders inside it. I want to add all the songs into the WMP library. What is the quickest way to add them all. Dont know how to do it? Any advice would be appreciated. TIA Kaja |

Add the folder to the "Monitor Folders" 3. Under the "Library" tab again, "Add to library..." then "Add" 4. If you want new files that appear in this directory tree to get added, then you're done. 5. If you don't want files added to the tree to be added to your library, then go go back to step 1 but then "Remove" -- Steve Swift http://www.swiftys.org.uk/swifty.html http://www.ringers.org.uk |

Does anyone know if it is possible to add groups of medial files to a playlist or create an entirely new playlist by simply highlighting that group in a normal windows vista folder, right clicking, and selecting add to playlist? I know this was an option in Win XP with WMP9, don't know if it is a feature in WMP11 though. Always that this was the quickest and easiest way to add to or create a new playlist. It can be done; here is one workable approach - maybe others will have something more clever: Use Ctrl+O to get the "File Open" dialog, navigate to the files you want to play, then start playing them. Press Ctrl+A to select all the files you are currently playing, right click one of then, and use the "Add to Playlist" options. -- Steve Swift http://www.swiftys.org.uk/swifty.html http://www.ringers.org.uk |

Oh, incidentally, your good karma will increase if you start new topics in new threads, but you already knew that. :-) -- Steve Swift http://www.swiftys.org.uk/swifty.html http://www.ringers.org.uk |

Been scanning forums for a similar problem, and came across this so hoping you can help... I have WMP 11 running on XP SP3 and all my mp3's on a 2nd hard drive organised into folders with the following structure ../Music/Artist/Album/*.mp3 files - either using WMP or Media Centre, if I try to ADD music at the MUSIC or ARTIST level it doesn't find anything, but if I add at ALBUM level it adds music fine. Naturally want to simply set the MUSIC (plus all subfolders) as the watchfolder and not keen to add every ALBUM folder manually (as I have about 600 or so) so hoping you can advise on what the problem could be? |

If you right-click the Music level : Choose Properties and ensure 'Read Only' is not ticked. If it is, untick it and choose "Apply" then select "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files". When that's done, go to the same settings again but select Security tab. Ensure your user name is on the list, then click Advanced, possibly "Change Permissions" and make sure you have read access (click your name again then Edit...) At that point you should have selected all checkboxes or "Full Control" then Apply again. Did check security /ntfs permissions as thought it related to that, but the files had been marked as read only (to save accidental deletion by my kids mainly!) and didn't think would have had any effect... but I guess thinking about it, I assume this would prevent updating of id tags... either way, it worked so thanks for your help and I've learned something new :-) |

Each of your kids and you has an account, but set it so each of the kids accounts *are given read-only permissions* - they (and programs they run under their accounts) can read but not alter the files. Leave your account with full control - all boxes checked though - so when you are logged on you can update metadata as required (as a responsible adult ;-) HTH Cheers - Neil ------------------------------------------------ Digital Media MVP : 2004-2009 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/mvpfaqs |
