Windows Media Player cannot find the file

My system runs windows XP Home SP3 and have windows media player 11 installed. I have attached an external drive to my system and have added some media to Media player . I can see the icons in Media player but as soon as i I click on the icon i get an error message saying:

"Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted"

It seems as if i am not allowed to access media stored on external usb, is that true?

I have faced same issue previously, actually the device needs to go through "autoplay" sequence before it is opened in order to cope up with windows media player. I don't know what's the logic behind that but whenever i open up my drive as soon as it gets recognized i get same error message. Just let it go though "autoplay" sequence and you wont get any error, check it out your self.
