No, I took it to my school lab to have it checked over and I think they erased my cd rom software ot drive. I have no idea. All I know is that it will say driver not detected, device manager does not even list a cd rom drive and there is no recording tab under properties. I can't even put a cd in my pc and play it. | Re: Connect CD burner?? I have a CD burner
It sounds like the CD drive is not going to be visible in windows explorer then. Have a look at this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060, and go to the "Download Guided Help" section, and follow the steps for resetting the CD "filters". From your description, erasing the CD burning software is one way to break the CD drive capabilties (by leaving behind cruft for which no program exists any more) HTH Cheers - Neil On Fri, 21 Nov 2008 23:05:01 -0800, lindsmk <lindsmk@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >No, I took it to my school lab to have it checked over and I think they >erased my cd rom software ot drive. Yeah I found the software that was originally on my pc Cyberlink, so I downloaded the software and that didn't help any. It is a drive problem. I need info on reinstalling the cd rom drive without having to do a factory restore to default, if at all possible. My manufacturer said that will probably solve the problem and reinstall the drive, but I am in law school and don't want to take the chance of erasinig all my programs and then the restore not work and then I will not even be able to put office back on my pc from the cd I have for it. I am so frustrated with this. Id there any way to install the cd rom drive without doing a factory restore? It won't let me download the guided help I am guessing because I have vista. It says only for XP. You don't need to delete any programs or data, or send it back to the manfacturer or anything like that. All you need to do is go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager, right-click the CD drive and "Uninstall" Reboot windows, and let windows re-detect it as new hardware (so it reinstalls the driver software for the CD-ROM automagically) HTH Cheers - Neil On Sun, 23 Nov 2008 09:27:01 -0800, lindsmk <lindsmk@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >Yeah I found the software that was originally on my pc Cyberlink, so I >downloaded the software and that didn't help any. | Re: Connect CD burner?? I have a CD burner
See that's the whole proble it won't even show a cd drive in device manager. the only thing under disk drives is "WDC WD1600BEVS-60RST0 ATA device" I don't want to do anyting to it because I don't know what that means. Is that the cd drive? If not then I don't know what to do. Rebooting has not helped and a system restore won't help because in vista it only goes back for a week at the most and it has been over a week since it happenned. OK so if the physical CD-Drive itself really is knackered, ask around some PC savvy friends. A DVD drive would be about $25 or so at a PC store, and a couple of beers for them to lift the lid, undo 2-4 small screws and the power / ribbon cable, slide the drive out, new drive back in, reconnect, screws back in and done. About 15 minutes ought to be enough. >> >I am so frustrated with this. Id there any way to install the cd rom drive >> >without doing a factory restore? If it's in warranty and you got it from a physical store, book an appointment and make them stick to it and fit a replacement while you wait. Threaten them with the Law if they don't respect your statutory rights (i.e. if they insist on taking 3 weeks and charging for shipping and delivery for a 15 minute job ;-) If it's really important, a local mom+pa PC store should be able to fit it for a few dollars over the price of the replcaement drive. Ok that is totally wrong.Your going to update any driver which has to do with the cd drive and/or with the caution sign over it once you do that the problem is fixed. |
