The playlist cannot be opened because it is stored in a shared folder

I try to watch the horse races online (which it use to work) no all of a
sudden it no longer will work. I see WMP trying to connect then after about
20 seconds I get this message (The playlist cannot be opened because it is
stored in a shared folder on another computer. If possible, move the playlist
to the playlists folder on your computer.) I have no idea why this is now
happening. Any HELP would be great.

Where did the playlist come from - is it one you copied from another
PC, or is this message a result of visiting a horse race website and
clicking on a Play link in a web page ?

I get the same error message,
(On Windows XP Pro, WMP 11.0.5721.5230, IE 7.0.5730.13. I also added dagskra.ruv.is as a trusted site just in case)

Same happens when using the Google Chrome browser. The funny thing is that I can open this exact same link using the standalone VLC media player with no problem, so it's must be something related to WMP.

I'm not going to that site... what are the contents of that link?

The content of that link is a newscast from the Icelandic state TV so it should be pretty safe :)

Obviously if it crashes firefox, it must some really weird wmp bug. As I said before, VLC opens this just fine.

What message are you referring to ? All the context seems to be
missing from your message. Have you posted a message before ?
If so, what was it about ? Google groups search
http://groups.google.com/ can usually help find it.

I don't know where you are reading these forums, but here is where I read it:

The playlist cannot be opened because it is stored in a shared folder

and it shows the whole thread, at least for me.

Yes, but *only* there. For everybody else TechArena is brutally unpleasant.
TechArena provides a broken front-end to NNTP.
