| DVD movie video corruption, audio fine (commercial movie DVD)
Greetings, I just bought the new Iron Man DVD movie and tried to play it on my computer, but I'm having a problem. Both Windows Media Player 11 and Windows Media Center have the same problem. The DVD plays without any error codes or messages, but the video is corrupted with large pixel blocks of varying colors. However, the audio plays fine. As I watch, there are brief hints that the video is trying to play, as I can see varying bits & pieces of the video come through the large pixel blocks noted above. Just an FYI, in case it helps: When I open the DVD in Windows Explorer, there is 1 directory with 27 files. All the files have 1 of 3 file extensions: BUP, IFO, or VOB. This is the first time I've tried to play a DVD movie on my computer. I do not have issues playing videos, audio, or games provided from other sources, such as CD or the web. I don't know much about troubleshooting or correcting this type of issue, but I am computer literate and do mostly development work on this rig. Any help to correct this issue is greatly appreciated. System: (1.5 years old, custom self-built) Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, all Windows Updates current Windows Media Player 11, all updates current Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM Video setup: 3 widescreen monitors on 2 VisionTek ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO video cards at 512MB each. Latest monitor and video card drivers installed. DVD Drive: Samsung SH-S183L DVD/Lightscribe drive, latest firmware/drivers installed Hard Drives: 320GB (2) on RAID 1 setup, with over half the capacity still free |

Do you have an expired Trial version of DVD decoder software ? Elecard trial versions may do this, or you could have a marginally incompatible decoder installed. The DecCheck program should be able to check which DVD decoders are installed, and switch to a listed compatible one if necessary : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en It's always worth as well, checking you have the most recent graphics card driver software from the ATI / AMD website, in case they're a bit iffy (drivers are updated from time to time to cope with problems discovered by users) |
