skidvid codec????

I have downloaded few video files from internet in .mpg format but my Windows Media player is not able to play them. Whenever I try playing them It asks me for some codec. Though I downloaded the same it still wont play the files.

I have two questions here, first how can I make these mpg videos play in Windows Media Player 11? And second, How can I see which codec is installed in my system and how can I remove them?

If you are trying to play those files in WMP, you might be getting a pop up box with the error, right? If yes, then there will be test “Web Help” hyperlinked with some URL. Just click that button, it will take you to some page whether it will tell you that which codec is actually missing and will give you its download page as well. So you just need to download that particular codec and everything will be fixed.

If am not wrong, I think your associated decoder is either missing or non-functional. And in such case the best source of help is the “Web Help” button as suggested above. Just give it a try and reply back if it wont fix your problem.
