| Internet Radio does not work in Vista 64 bit Ultimate and WMP 11
Internet Explorer defaults reset. HTTP and RTSP protocols set to autodetect. Click on Media Guide/Internet Radio no problems. Click on BBC World Service 16 k/ Add to My Stations no problem. Click on Visit Web Site opens web site in new IE 7 window. I can then play the live broadcast directly from the site. But if I click on Play within WMP ab-so-lutely nothings happens. Within WMP, if I use >Ctrl U< a windows comes up that allows me to enter the URL of the web site. WMP says it is connecting, then opening media, but after a moment an error pops up: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." The other default radio stations present the same errors. Seeing as Microsoft won't support this nor allow you to remove or reinstall WMP is there any way to repair this? I have not had any problems with videos or music. Just Internet Radio. |

| Re: Internet Radio does not work in Vista 64 bit Ultimate and WMP
Hello Zachd, Yes I tried that and some other suggestions from your web site. It did not help. The URL fails as copied from the WMP link "Visit the web site." However clicking on the link does open up a new browser window that takes you to the web page. Hitting the control and "U" keys within WMP allows you to enter in the URL directly into WMP. Then WMP tries to connect and play the internet radio. The error is then displayed. Clicking on the "Play" link within WMP does nothing. A URL that fails is http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/ The URL taken directly from the properties of the "Listen Live" link in that web site is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/c...nbram=1&nbwm=1 These both fail when pasted into the WMP via Control-U. Any of the other default URL's supplied with WMP in the Internet Radio feature also do not work. I mentioned this problem to some IT personnel I was working with the other day and they said that this feature in WMP under Vista was simply broken from the get-go and Microsoft has never fixed it. In other words, this problem is not resolvable unless Microsoft writes a fix for it. Don't hold my breathe for that I was told... Other notes: I have Panda Internet Security and have allowed WMP through that firewall. I have Nero 8 Ultimate installed. I have both IE 7 and Firefox 3 with Firefox as the default browser. I have an array of standard browser plugins such as Macromedia Flash, WMP, Java and so on. Maybe I'll try disabling some of those and see what happens... Thanks for your help. Microsoft should pay you. Wow, that is so weird. I pasted the URL into the player (using control U) and it works! How did you find the proper URL? If I know that it might come in handy if I run into problems with other radio stations. For that matter I am not sure why clicking on the play link by itself does not work. Hmmm... Anyway, thanks very much. I still think Windows is not at all user friendly. I am using 64 bit Vista Ultimate. I also right clicked on the embedded player but I get this URL from it's properties box: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/c...nbram=1&nbwm=1 Unless I don't know what an "embedded player is"... Using Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 and the web address http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/ I see in the upper left an orange button labeled with a speaker icon and the text "Listen Live". I get the same page URL's and links using IE7 "zachd [MSFT]" wrote: > > I right-clicked on the embedded player on that site and chose "Properties". > > Are you using 32bit or 64bit IE? zachd, If you are interested and want to send me an email address I can send you some annotated screen shots so we both know we are looking at the same thing. If you want your email to remain secure you can always set up a temporary gmail account or something. I have snagit as a capture utility. It would be a lot of work for me, but I'm game if you are. I don't want my email address to be picked up by spammers so here it is with a bunch of % characters inserted randomly within it. To get my real email address just remove ALL of the % characters. Yah, I'm paranoid. Here it is: %%j%vezina%%@%%%tb%w%ifi.c%a Sorry to be so paranoid...once you send me your initial email I'll be able to reply. If you're not game for this, that's ok too. It's not like I rely or even use WMP on a regular basis. It just bugs me that I can't figure this out, and I'd like to solve this problem for my friends who have the same problem. | Re: Internet Radio does not work in Vista 64 bit Ultimate and WMP I am unfortunately unavailable for email based chats about the player, as that would tend to offer an avenue for the complete destruction of my communicative life, given the complexity of the multimedia field. | Re: Internet Radio does not work in Vista 64 bit Ultimate and WMP
No problem, I totally understand. As I said, putting in the correct URL as YOU gave me works well. I just have no idea where you got it, nor how to save that URL as the default for that particular BBC link within WMP. Putting in YOUR URL within any browser (that is, http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/me...live/www11.asx) simply opens a new tab or window using what I assume is the browser's WMP plugin. Putting that URL into WMP directly via Control U plays the station very well within WMP as it should. It's just that the default buttons that came with the WMP program which came with the operating system simply don't work. Let's just call this one unresolved as I too have time constraints. I want to thank you for your help, and good luck to you in the future.
