    Connecting two pcs to adsl modem?

    I am using BSNL Broadband DNA-A211-I and it is working fine. Now I am planning to connect my two PCs to my BSNL. For these I purchased a new CAT-5 lan cable. I connect it to my second system and second Ethernet port of modem. i think the connection done by me is fine. But know what setting should I do so that I can access the Internet via second PC also. Does any one has any idea about the setting please inform me. Your effort will be appreciated. Thank you in Advance.

    1] First Configure your modem in pppoe mode.
    2]In modem enable DHCP
    3]Go to TCP/IP properties of your modem and make sure that set Obtain IP address Automatically.

    Did you try to set obtain IP address automatically and if it does not resolve your problem then try the following. Go to TCP/IP properties of your machine and enter the following values

    For machine 1:
    IP = 192.168.1.25
    Sub net mask = 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway = 192.168.1.1

    For machine 2:
    IP = 192.168.1.20
    Sub net mask = 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway = 192.168.1.1
    Hope now you are able to connect your both the system to the internet.

    Re: Connecting two pcs to adsl modem?

    You can connect to the internet in two ways. They are Bridge/Dialer mode and pppoe mode.
    1] Bridge/Dialar mode:
    When you use this mode you connect to net by dialing connection from your computer. Your modem acts as a transparent bridge and public IP is assigned to your computer. Hence your computer is visible to other over net. But when you are using this mode there are security risk.

    2]pppoe mode:
    In this mode the dialing is done automatically by router and your user ID and password are stored at router. Router obtains the Public Ip address and Hence your computer is visible over the Internet. The internet can not see the devices connected behind the router and hence this is more secure connection over net.
