100kbps connection but 10kbps download speed

I have the 100 kbps connection , but i only get the 10kbps speed while downloading and sometimes even less than that. Is it ok, if i get this much speed in 100kbps? or its less? This is the connection form the local service provider. Please share your views. Thanks

I think its proper that you getting 10Kbps download speed. Normally you should get 12 to 13 Kbps but 10kbps is also fine. Test your downlaod and upload speed on speedtest.net. It gives the correct rating. And also consult your service provider to make sure that you getting correct download speed.

Which downloading application you using for downloads? Normally when you downloads with the internal downloaded of browsers like firefox and IE, you won't get much download speed. But with download accelerators like FlashGet, utorrent ect you gets some more download speed. It would be bette if you would posted the speedtest image here.

There is a difference between the speed of surfing and download speed. As you mentioned you have a connection of 100 Kbps, which means you can surf the net with a top speed of 100 Kbps, but download speed gets calculated as below:

Download speed = total speed/8
Download speed = 100/8 = 12.5
