What is Mobile number portability (MNP)

Hi,

Department of telecom has decided to start mobile number portability service into action on September 20 in all major states of india and rest of the country will get it by March 20, 2010. One thing which i want to ask is that what is this service and how it works. what will be the charges for this service.

TRAI has the authority the authority to fix the price of the Mobile number portability. which will be around Rs. 250 or 300. Mobile number portability is beneficial for both, the government and customers. Customer is the king is king in any case, if service provider is unable to offer quality services, with better at affordable rates.

Mobile Number Portability or MNP is a service which will retain your existing mobile number along with Operator code and shifts the connectivity from one Operator to another Operator. Its a circuit-switch network service provided by the cellular operators. it helps user to change service providers or service types without changing the mobile number.
