Malaysia-based Maxis group will invest $5 billion to roll out services in the 10 telecom circles where it is not present right now. The plan will be carried out through its vehicle here, Aircel.
Aircel, the telecom operator with 170 lakhs subscribers across India and the leader in 4 telecom circles, is launched there services in Delhi.
Delhi already has six mobile operators Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, MTNL, Tatas, Reliance Communication. Aircel has launched four different tariff plans targeting different consumer segments busines and corporate, youth and students, migrant population from North-East, Bengal, Bihar and UP and standard package.
Aircel, which sponsors Indian Premier League team Chennai Superkings and has M S Dhoni as its brand ambassador, is India's fifth largest GSM mobile service provider with 17 million users and Delhi is the 14th circle for the company.
The company has announced an investment of 10 billion dollar to cover nation-wide cellular network and of this 5 billion dollar has already been invested, Sandip Das, CEO of Aircel, told reporters. Aircel has pan-India license and has also been allocated the spectrum, Das said, adding that in the next 24 months the company would cover all the 23 circles.
Aircel will offer a lifetime validity scheme for prepaid mobile customers that allows users to make local calls at Rs one for the first minute, 60 paise for the second minute and 40 paise for the third minute onwards.
