Hi, Both the upload and download speed will be 1mbps nn a 1mbps leased line and you would also get a static ip and is normally recommended for businesses which rely on the net connection to conduct business on a daily basis. Some businesses also use leased lines for voip calls.

A normal broadband connection be it adsl, cable or wimax or anything is not a dedicated connection. Generally has a dynamic ip which changes frequently.

It really depends what you are trying to achieve with your 512kbps leased line...
That 512kbps leased line would give 512kbps speed.. If this is not what you asked please elaborate or rephrase your question.

    Hi,

There few Technical differences between a leased line and a broadband connection.
    1. Upload speed is less generally only 512kbps although your download speed is 4Mbps like in the case of Tata Indicom Broadband connections.

2.Delay time can be more as compared to leased lines.(which effect VOPI )

3.You will have a variable speed in broadband connection as compared to a leased line which will have a dedicated bandwidth for upload and download.

Suggestion: If you don't want to do a critical data transfer like Voip or u have your own ISP(Internet service Provider) then i believe u don't need it. Even u can host your website with a broadband connection....

    Hi

    Illustration
Leased Line : a hose pipe with water flowing at its best.
Broadband : a hose pipe with water flowing without a constant speed. Sometimes it may at its best, and sometimes a trickle.

    Eg.
A 1 Mbps leased line is split among 5 or more customers to make it a broadband connection with upto 1 Mbps speed.

Leased could at its max be distributed to 4 nodes = Leased Line 1:4
If it is being distributed to 5 or more nodes, its download speed fluctuates, hence becomes a normal broadband connectivity.

Leased lines have dedicated upload speeds, if a leased for 1 Mbps 1:1 is taken, then it will have 1 Mbps on both upload and download. However if it were 1 Mbps broadband, the upload speed will be much lower, while the download speed fluctuates depending on the number of active users in that cluster at a given point of time.

    Broadband
In general, broadband refers to telecommunication in which a wide band of frequencies is available to transmit information. Because a wide band of frequencies is available, information can be multiplexed and sent on many different frequencies or channels within the band concurrently, allowing more information to be transmitted in a given amount of time. Related terms are wideband , baseband , and narrowband.

    leased line
A permanent telephone connection between two points set up by a telecommunications common carrier. Typically, leased lines are used by businesses to connect geographically distant offices. Unlike normal dial-up connections, a leased line is always active. The fee for the connection is a fixed monthly rate. The primary factors affecting the monthly fee are distance between end points and the speed of the circuit. Because the connection doesn't carry anybody else's communications, the carrier can assure a given level of quality.
