BIG TV, a wholly owned DTH arm of Reliance Communications, said today that it has signed on a record 500, 000 subscribers in the first two months of its launch, which it claimed to be the fastest growth rate demonstrated by any DTH player in India.

“Crossing the 500,000 customer milestone within two months is indeed a testimony to the superior value proposition offered by BIG TV and its success in accelerating the growth momentum of DTH sector in India," Big TV president Arun K. Kapoor said.

"Our plans of defining the future of television viewing in India are on desired course, and we are fully geared to add over 400,000 subscribers every month with an on-ground infrastructure spanning 6,500 Indian towns," he added.

On an average, the entire DTH market in India adds about 350,000 subscribers every month.

“Big TV's half-million subscriber milestone is equivalent to 40 percent of the industry's gross additions during the last two months. This is a true leadership statement from Big TV DTH," said Kapoor.

Big TV, the DTH arm of Reliance Communications, is targeting five million subscribers within first year of operations.

It plans to double its channel bouquet to 400 by next year.
