sad sony VAIO laptop SO-DIMM2 Slot not working or disabled

    Hi All ,

This is my first post. I have a unusual problem
    here it goes.

I bought a New 1GB RAM for my laptop (config below).
    From Transend 1GB DDR2 667 SO-DIMM

I have 1GB RAM already on my laptop and I wanted to add a additional 1GB RAM to this.

Now my problem is its not detecting. (BIOS says 1GB no matter what).

I replaced the OLD RAM with the new one to check if the new RAM is working, and its working fine.

Now I figured tht the second SO-DIMM2 slot is either disabled or not working.

    1. If it is Disabled how can I enable it ?
    2. If its not working then what should I do ?

    laptop configuration
    Sony VAIO VGN-C25G
    Dual Core T5500 1.6Ghz processor
    1GB RAM (Default) SO-DIMM1
    Windows Vista

    Hi,
I don't think that you can disable or enable RAM's, they either work or not. I really think it's your laptop's motherboard that can't support a single DDR2 1 GB RAM or something. Not sure though. How many RAM slot does your laptop has?

I have a 4 years old Sony vaio laptop, when i bought it it had 512 RAM DDR2 SO-DIMM (2 slots with 256 MB RAM on each), so one or two years later when i wanted to upgrade my RAM, i had a look on my laptop's manual and it said that its motherboard cant support more that 1GB ram which means that 512 MB ram on each of two slots is the max ram it can get (2x512MB=1GB). So i bought them and upgraded it from 512MB DDR2 SO-DIMM to 1GB DDR2 SO-DIMM

is your laptop's default ram SO DIMM?? cause if it only supports SO-DIMM, then I guess it's quite normal that SO-DIMM DDR2 RAM wont work with your laptop..

    thx for ur reply george,

My Laptop supports 2GB RAM (max according to the manual).
Both the RAM are SO-DIMM DDR2.

    I tried with this now.
I inserted 1GB RAM in the second slot.[tried both old and new]
    Both didnt work.
It just showed a blank screen and nothin happen .. no sound nothin.
    surprising !!!

can you figure out what this means..
