Hard disks network Ethernet NAS NDAS

Sponsored Links
There are several technologies making it possible to connect a hard disk to a network:
The NAS:
Network Attached Storage
This name indicates a storage unit connected to the remainder of the system by traditional communications protocols (Ethernet, TCP/IP, etc), exactly like any other file server. Device NAS does not have its own operating system but uses a micro core dedicated to the management of the input-outputs like NFS (Unix environment), SMB/CIFS (DOS/Windows) or CPC (Netware Novell).
The contents are thus visible like a file divided on the network.
(journaldunet source)

The NDAS:
Direct Network Attached Storage
Resemble the NAS but in less practical because it is necessary to install a driver on each station to reach the disc network. The disc is then seen like a local disc on each machine. This solution is most economic and thus most widespread at the private individuals.
