On mac OS X Lion external Hard Drive unable to delete files

As I have lot of stuffs to save, I make use of external hard disk to access my data and I find it easy this way. I have stored some lots of empty stuff on my external hard drive and was hoping to delete them , I want to delete some empty files on my latest external hard drive. And it is not letting me to continue. So are you guys having some solution which will assist you to safety trash the few files I don't wish for? I'm making use of OS X Lion.

If you have made some formatting of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and if it says that the hard drive is running at this time , I suppose that it sounds like another process is making use of the disk. And I need to inquire you , do you have the exact wording of the error?

As you said that you are making use of Mac, you need to restart your Mac, and then reconnect your disk and attempt once more, and see to it whether you are with the same error or not? I suppose you will not be with this issue again.
