I want to upgrade 1397 WLAN Mini to 5100 WLAN Mini-Card in my Dell Studio 1753

I recently bought a Linksys N4200 router. I am using Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini and I wish to upgrade it. The Dell support have suggested me to upgrade it to 5100 Wireless-Network Mini-Card. I have no issues with that but I just happened to see a couple of pictures of the same and I realized that the new one is less than half the size of that of the one that exists. I don’t think it will fit in the slot, it’s too short for that.
Any idea how to go about this?

Relax! You needn’t really worry about that since there definitely is a solution to this. All you’ve got to do is, use an adapter as a mediator and Install the drivers. It’s done Deal!

That was quite a helpful post I must say! I have ordered it and guess what I realized post ordering. The Dell executive said that I’ll only get the card and a flat headed screw in the package. No instruction guide, no divers, nothing. So, what do I do now? Where do I find them?

I cannot guide you through the entire installation process, however I would like to let you know to some Recommended wireless Router Settings:

    • Update the details like Manufacturer’s website, make and model
    • Broadcast SSIS as it makes it easier to connect
    • For security, use WPA-PSK(TKIP)
    • Keep the password at least 13 characters long
    • Mixed b, g and n mode
    • Use 1,6 or 11 channel
    • Setting should be kept at DCHP
    • Avoid the use of Mac Address filtering

The recommendations were simply awesome. But I guess your Sales Rep have misguided you. The package comes with Disk and instructions. I had ordered one, I did get and so will you. All you need to do is shut down the system and unplug. Remove the battery. Then, hold the power button for 30 seconds; this will discharge any power left.
Then, you can attach the wireless adapter, replug and put in the battery and start the computer. If required, press Fn+F12 in order to turn the adapter on. It’ll then find required drives and install them. Check its fine existence in the device manager.
