Upgrading SD22 firmware on Seagate XT 1

I have a Seagate XT 1 320 GB hard disk with me. I was reading its specifications in which it was noted that it has SD22 firmware installed in it. According to information on website of Seagate, the latest firmware is SD28. I want to upgrade the firmware of my hard disk to the latest one. Is it possible to directly upgrade the firmware directly to the latest one or should I proceed with updating of firmwares in step by step by updating every firmware that comes between SD22 and SD28.

Yes, you can got to upgrading of latest firmware without installing the intermediate version of it. See to it that you are downloading the firmwares for update from the official source and not from some 3rd party website or links. They can be malicious softwares that can harm your system. Make a backup of all your data, as the upgrade might cause data loss.

On upgrading the firmware, the hard disk will behave a bit differently. The noise of the spinning platters will change. This is because SD22 firmware rotates the platter in one direction simultaneously, while SD28 firmware rotates the platters in different directions and in random time slots. Also the read and write will speed up.
