Cannot create 64bit virtual machine on HP xw8400 Workstation

Right now my HP xw8400 workstation is running Windows XP. I cannot install or create a 64 bit virtual machine using VMWARE here. The system seems lacking VT-x technology. So is there any BIOS settings to enable this?

I am also suffering from the same problem here and that is even with the HP xw8400. Recently I have installed the 02.26 Rev. a BIOS but there is no option to enable VT. Even the VMware does not able to recognize the VT enabled within BIOS. I am also trying to create a 64bit OS in VMware.

When I got the same problem I decided to get rid of the Hyper-V and reinstall the Role. I got the BIOS to v2.31 and installed the Hyper-V and enabled the Intel-VT and DEP using the BIOS settings. The problems seem resolved now and Hyper-V RC0 runs properly.

The fact is that if you have installed or flashed with the latest BIOS while the Hyper-V role previously installed in that there is no reason that the VMware will load the Hypervisor. You can check it in the event log. To make it work, first you need to remove the role, reboot and afterward reinstall Hyper-V. After that check into the Intel Processor Identification Utility. If the Intel-VT support Disabled, enables it and now you can create 64bit virtualization.

My workstation is installed with VMWare ESXi 5.0. I also want to install the 64 bit operating systems. The VT-X should be enabled. The BIOS version 2.38. To enable VT-X
  • RE- Boot the system and press F10 to enter into BIOS.
  • Select "Security" and then "OS Security"
  • There you should see "Intel Virtualization Technology? and enable it
  • Save changes and exit.
