My Seagate ST3500320NS is recognized as ST_M13FQBL by BIOS

Hello, i have Seagate ST3500320NS but from some time my BIOS is detecting it as ST_M13FQBL. I know that disks with this series have lots of problems like BSY errors. But why is it showing my hard disk with different model no.?

I think that your PCB is not detecting your disk properly. It may also be the problem with your SATA cable or your SATA port on your drive. I have heard somewhere that if your hard disk is not initialized properly then this kind of problem occurs. Check the power supply in your system, uneven voltage in your cabinet can also cause this problem to your disk.

I have this problem with two of my hard disks they are as follows:
    • ST3750330NS, S/N: 9QK1LSX4, FirmWare: SN05
    • ST31000340NS, S/N: 9QJ21BF8, FirmWare: SN05

Both of these drives make noise when power on the system and are not ready to proceed further. If i use pc3000 then they show following data on both of the disks:
    Model: ST_M13FQBL
    S/N: QNR_BFW
    FW: 1204F3C8
    capacity: LBA 8089950 (3.86 GB)

How do i solve this problem? Can defective ROM be reason for this?

This happens if you are trying to short the channels. This happens with ES.2 drives only. You can use Nokia CA-45 cable or if you know the commands you use with Seagate then you can also use the HD doctor. This problem happens when disk try to load firmware and if those are defective then it will show the wrong serial number. You can avoid loading of these defective firmware by shorting the read channels. Now from your terminal you can remove tips, now start the motor with “U”, and type the following: “/1”, ”N1” for resetting the SMART, now turn off your system and start it again.

This problem is seen with new 7200.11firmware also. Only Seagate can answer why this problem is coming? When system starts firmware sectors disturb the PCB motor connection. But in order to this error to occur PCB should read some sectors of the firmware. After this you are shown the error in the terminal that is LED: 000000CC.You must short read channel to stop it from reading further sectors. After this you will need to reset the S.M.A.R.T. and the translator.
