Poor Audio from HP T5745 Thin Client in Citrix Session

I am getting problem with HP T5745 multimedia audio. The sound I am hearing is very poor and sometimes the audio is very choppy with in a Citrix session. If I test the same files using RDP session, it just plays very well. I looked into the Citrix client settings but nothing able to make it proper. The issue happening only with LAN based systems, so I think that it is not bandwidth related. So far I have tried the
    • Different media file format.
    • Removed Citrix policies
    • Upgraded to latest version of image and BIOS.

I have a solution here and I hope that it might work. You need to try to set default.ica setting on the web interface server
    • First of all default.ica file on web interface server.
    • Next thing to do is open default.ica file with notepad to edit it
    • Now enter “AudioBandwidthLimit=0” line under WFClient and save file.
    • Now close the WI site from the client and reboot the client.

As far as I know that it is the problem with the rdesktop. It seems to me that RDP sound re-directing on Linux Thin Clients with Windows servers. This re-direction only happens if USB Drive Mapping is enabled. So in order to resolve this issue, activate USB drive mapping. It will fix the problem temporarily.

It seems to me that in thin clients some audio options are turned off due to the default behavior in Windows 2008 R2. So first of all you need to check these settings in Terminal Services- Configuration MMC. There you will need to see whether the Windows Audio services are running or not.

I know that there are very cheap HPs – cheap is good but not good. It is good for word processing but not for audio. These clients might have Citrix client but these are not meant for Citrix HDX (so smooth video/audio). So you should expect anything better than this. In order to get better audio quality, you need to get more powerful Intel Atom 1.6 GHz on Linux based. However if you want to get something more out from the Citrix, switch to the Windows based thin client.
