MKV format played by new xbox Dashboard

I have not seen the much information about this on any of the other sites but I have seen that with the new dashboard, we will be able to play the MKVs over the local network with the help of the xbox video player devoid of using the Media Center. This is very interesting. I am posting this over here to share this with you people and if you have something more to be shared on this then please let me know that.

Is it true? If yes then this is really a very good news for us. I was not knowing about this before reading this thread. I know that there are very less people who really cares about this but this will be good as we will be able to put our own stuff without having the requirement of the media player. I am really happy.

As far as I know that there is only one way to stream a mkv 360 is to go through the media center. Once your console connected to your computer by the media center, you installed these on your computer:

AC3Filter
The codec pack for DivX
The Haali Media Splitter

I have played the MKV format with my xbox Dashboard and that played without any issue and so I can confirm that it will be supported by the new xbox Dashboard as I have personal experience of this.
