Does anyone know who invented the first computer and when by exact timeline?
The answer to this depends on your definition of computer:
The first known tool or device was “TallySticks” from about 35,000 BC. The Abacus was then made in 2400 BC by Babylonians.
1837 Charles Babbage, a British professor of mathematics described his idea for Analytical Engine, which was the first programmed mechanical computer. It was powered by steam engine that used punched card , which was used to program mechanical looms at that time.
In the year 1939, John V. Atanasoff and Clifford Berry developed the Computer called Atanasoff-Berry(ABC) they were professors at Iowa State University, which was also called as the first electronic digital computer at that time. It was totally built by hand and it used over 300 vacuum tubes. It also had capacitors fixed in a mechanically rotating drum as for memory.
The ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer), was built in the U.S in the year 1943. It was widely regarded as the first fully functionally useful electronic computer and it was influenced by the ABC model.
The UNIVAC (Universal Automatic Computer) was the first computer used for commercial use and was created at very big number. It was made by Remington Rand in the USA and was delivered to the US Census Bureau in June 1951. It used 5200 vacuum tubes and consumed125kW power. In total 46 machines were sold at more than 1million each.
Well, In 1623 German Mathematician Wilhelm Schickard developed 1st mechanical calculator.
In 1642 French Mathematician Blaise Pascal built the 1st four dozen copies of adding and subtracting machine.
In 1911 Hollerith's tabulating Machine Company came with two other enterprises to form the Computing - Tabulating –Recording Company , and renamed in 1924 the International Business Machine ( IBM ).
: EINAC (1946) was the real computer used for commercial use. At that time it had the size of entire room , it also used to release lot of heat and make sound. So it was not usable in home.
The Apple 2 (1977) was the first really popular personal computer.
IBM's PC, which ran PC-DOS, the predecessors to Microsoft's MS-DOS and Windows, debuted in the early 1980s.
The Macintosh was the first commercial computer with graphical interface that came into the market in 1984.
Many consider that Univac was the first computer but it was not. In fact the Z1 was the first computer created in 1936 by Konrad Zuse.
Univac was not there still 1951.
Many people thinks that “Difference engine” was the first computer ever made, in 1782 by J. H. Smith. Sadly it was never made. The “Difference engine” concept was forgotten and then again rediscovered in 1822 by Charles Babbage .
This machine used decimal numbers system. British government first promised to finance his project but then later they left the support. Babbage then designed his own engine. He also produced his project and returned with more improved design between the year 1834 and 1869.
The earliest computer known is Antikythera Machine. It was the machine that computed the positions of the astrological signs on any given date in past or in the future. It was discovered in an ancient shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea and found to be from approximately 250BC.
The maker of this machine was not known, but due to its similarities to other mechanical devices known to have been designed by Archimedes, it was said that it was his device
