AMD FX-8120 and Gigabyte GA-990X overheating

I am having an Amd Fx-8120 CPU on a Gigabyte GA-990x motherboard and recently I have noticed that the cpu is overheating too much. At idle the temperatures will be 60c. I have checked that all settings are at stock settings only. The fan is also working fine and the bios settings are not touched either, it is set to defaults. Can anyone tell me how do I lower the temperature. Thanks for any help in advance.

You might be having a cooling issue. Can you tell us whether your system was running cool enough before? If it was running cooler before then try to check if you got any dust buildup in your computer chassis or there is something else that is blocking the air flow. You will also need to make sure that the heatsink is firmly seated or not over the CPU on the motherboard.

Since you have not changed any settings in the BIOS then you must have also not done overclocking, right? Incase your system was never cool before then you will have to check the heatsink whether it is installed perfectly or not. You can even try to reapply some thermal paste on your system but before that clean off the old ones first. Which cabinet are you using, does it have good airflow? You can try to have a top exhaust fan by the CPU and see whether it cools down.

You said that you have kept the bios setting on default? Can you tell us what is the default CPU voltage, whether it is 1.4v or higher? You can try to set the CPU voltage as low as you can, like for example keep it on 1.3v and if you have any instability then raise it a bit more until you have a stable system. This settings will have a definite effect on the temperature if its wrongly high in bios as default.
