Error while partitioning and formatting in Momentus 500GB ST9500424AS

As bought the Seagate Momentus 500GB ST9500424AS hard drive but what I see is that when installing the windows 7 in the hard drive it is giving me error while partitioning and formatting. The error which I’m getting is "Setup cannot continue, the disk may be damaged" so I’m not getting the reason of this error. As I have bought the Hard drive recently and am really disappointed whether the problem is with the HDD or the windows disc.

I would like to know whether your hard drive was detected in the laptop and also bios/efi. And is the disc of your windows 7 correct or not. Because the damage in the disc may also be the cause of the problem.

Actually you can try running the seatools in the Momentus hard drive and you should try downloading the dos version. By doing this it will provide with the iso which you can write it in your DVD. After this boot the system with the DVD in the HDD and test it whether it is showing the error or not.

Even I’m having the similar problem in the Momentus HDD as I have also recently bought it. But I’m not getting why is it not able to install the windows os in the HDD. It is showing me the same error as the guy has mention in question. So it would be more helpful if anyone of you help me to find the way through this error.

As you have mention that you are getting the error while installing the windows 7 in the Momentus HDD but I would like to know in which system you installed it and how did you installed the os. You also didn’t mention the system which tried to install was supped by AHCI. As you dint provide the details regarding this, how can you expect that anyone could provide you with the exact solution. So for tjis I would like you to mention the details of the system you tried to install in.

Sorry for the half information provided in the thread.

Here are the things which I tried to use with the system

o I used the Dell XPS 17 L702x laptop
o Used the windows 7 bootable DVD
o When installing it asked for the partition and I gave 60 GB of space in the C: Drive.
o when I gave command for partitioning it gave me the following error
"Setup cannot continue, the disk may be damaged"
o and have bought Dell XPS 17 L702x laptop just 6 months back.

According to me you should try doing the following thing

1) you should try to check the chipset
2) check whether the sprecs is supported by the HDD
3) if supported capacity of the drive surpass then see whether there is available of BIOS upgrade.
4) See whether AHCI is working properly.
