DIMENSION 4700 RAM Memory Speed in dell computer

I just installed four new RAM sticks of 533MHz (DDR2) into my PC and the BIOS point out 533MHz as the latest speed. (It used to examine as 400 MHz, with original RAM in Dell). It appear this buss is clocking at 266.0 MHz, which point out that the memory is really running at 533MHz (266 x2 twice data speed). I consider I examine here a little ways back that somebody say the memory which is 533 would 'clock-down' to 400 MHz. From what I notice in the BIOS and from the tests of software, it appears to be functioning at a complete 533MHz.Any idea on this situation?

Just if you used mix RAM speeds. If your entire latest RAM is PC2 (4300), the whole thing will processing at 533 MHz. Please post it and let me be acquainted with if you require extra help.

IIRC, I think it was "shesagordie" who responded to a poster went under the name "LAN" (I think) and said the poster Dimension 4700 does * not * @ 533MHz DDR2 ... but I
sought for this posting (i.e. 2 people) and it seems were removed. How come?

Re: DIMENSION 4700 RAM Memory Speed in dell computer

I have a dimension 4700 and it wants more memory -it runs slow when a only some Firefox web pages are running. Can the Dell Dimension 4700 take the following –(((DDR2 PC-5300 CL=5 unbuffered non-ecc ddr2-667 1.8v))) or (((DDR2 PC-6400 CL=6 unbuffered non-ecc ddr2-800 1.8v)))
Question 1: What does the 6400 and 5300 mean, and which is enhanced?
Question 2: Which are better 800 or 667 MHz?
Question 3: How do I know which one is enhanced for my computer?
    Thank you

Re: DIMENSION 4700 RAM Memory Speed in dell computer

Ddr2 type memory comes in editions that are able of working at dissimilar maximum speeds. Putting a more rapidly speed module in a device that is running at a slower rate does not make the module run at the quicker rated speed. Sometimes quicker speed defined memory are installed in a system for the reason that it is well-matched and obtainable or because it is more inexpensive than the lower rated (presumable older and slower) modules that are often stopped.
The dell dimension has 4 240 pin memory ddr2 type module sockets that can agree to 1 GB modules each one for a system greatest of 4 GB. The device was sold with whichever pc2-4200 or pc2 3200 memory depending on the type of CPU that was ordered (with 800 MHz or fsb 533Mhz front side bus).Wish that makes logic.

Thank you for the assist. How do I decide the rate of my (FSB) front side bus for my Dell Dimension 4700? Thanks

You can enter the bios (f2 during self-test when the Dell logo) or to obtain a free utility * to say exactly what kind of processor is installed on your system. Processor determines the type of front-side bus speed used. but the background is the memory I suggested above is not only compatible, but it's cheap and fast enough to adapt to the outside (front) the speed of the processor installed in your machine is a summary of the speeds that operating. The list different types of memory modules look correct, but the double data rate (DDR) memory speed is not designed for a speed ratio of one to one with the front-side bus speed. is usually double "pumped" to match the front-side bus speed (hence why the numbers do not always seem to match).
