Re: Need to install XFX ATI Radeon HD in Dell XPS 420

Here let me tell you, XPS420 systems do not use a proprietary power supply from Dell. And for that you can use standard ATX power over, either with a 24-pin or 20 +4 pin main power board. I say all this because, for the XPS420 have a open back panel, a power supply with or without on / off switch can be used, must be able to buy a replacement from most local computer stores and line. And I would like to tell you that the PC Power and Cooling Silencer 500 Dell 12V PPCS500D 80 + certified power supply, shown in the link should work fine on the XPS 420, provided they have five [or more] power connectors SATA.

Here I know, and also do not realize it was an open back. Can you please tell me why I need five SATA power connectors? And 500W is enough for the graphics card? I know that when a graphics card says it needs 400 W or less, is only an estimate and not the power to the graphics card needs, but calculating the set?

Re: Need to install XFX ATI Radeon HD in Dell XPS 420

This is because, XPS 420 motherboard has five SATA connectors for five SATA devices, and if you are trying to replace the power supply, I personally would like to install a power supply 600w/650w, instead of 500W, which is their choice. Basically, what it means is that while you can install 4 GB of system memory, the reason is not recognized is mainly due to 32-bit processors and / or 32-bit applications on the limitations of the memory address. And here let me say that 64-bit processors and operating systems are recognized beyond the limitation of 32 bits

If you are telling me to take one of the 600 and 650 privateer privateers then in this case, I'd go with the Corsair 650. I have one last question though. What is the difference between cx, hx and tx a power source. I recently had to reinstall Windows and only had a 32-bit cd and not the original 62 bit.

Ok, for your requirements I am having some details over here, which are listed as:
  • TX - NON Modular - All cables are attached to the power supply be default, 80+ Bronze up to 85% efficient
  • HX - SEMI Modular - Motherboard power cables are attached, peripheral cables are not, 80+ bronze up to 85% efficient
  • AX - FULLY Modular - All cables are detached by default, 80+ GOLD up to 90% efficient

Re: Need to install XFX ATI Radeon HD in Dell XPS 420

I was wondering if you could help me with my problem, I also I have to upgrade my power supply for a new graphics card. I went with an OCZ 750 watt modular my new GTX560 graphics card. Install the card was fine, PSU, no problems since they have built a few machines in my day. Even while I am good at building teams does not mean you know everything about all parties in the systems. I have hope that I did something wrong, but it was really a no brainer. But I will retrace my install with the hope that I missed something.
  • Installed hardware
  • Inserted the 20 +4 plug into MB
  • Inserted the 4 pin into MB (assuming CPU)
  • Inserted two 6 pins connectors for the video card
  • Inserted three Sata cables for my HD and DVD and Video card.

Re: Need to install XFX ATI Radeon HD in Dell XPS 420

I went for the 5770, finally my 8800GT also died. I bought the cheapest ASUS EAH5770 and I was surprised how quiet it was. It's basically inaudible. The yield is decent, but nothing stellar. It's okay if you play with a 1920x1200 resolution. It will even work with 1920x1200, but only for a short time and probably the only reduction settings. So yeah, it offers a lot of bang for the buck. Oh and by the way, also try overclocking your CPU Q6600 at 3GHz using to read the guide:
