Partitioning two HDD in single computer

I have just installed a new 1TB HDD today on my computer. However before proceeding I have few questions to clear out.

• Is it OK to encompass only one partition of 650GB? Is believing just trouble that can occur is it will get a long instant to defragment.
• There are now 2 HDDs within my cabinet currently, single Seagate 1TB 7200.12 and an additional WD Green 500GB. How to partition it with the intention that I can remain it organized?

You can expand the storage capacity on a 2nd hard drive, or deploy the 2nd drive as a folder. Otherwise each disk should preferably be of equal size, and then you can appeal to both disks completely together as a single partition. Otherwise, at most "hard drive capacity of the smaller plate x 2" is possible. But still uses it depends on which controller, operating system or port it. Some IDE Raid controllers are not supported under Linux to some extent.

In order to organize the contents of its disk: make a partition dedicated to the video when using a camcorder. Make a partition to install large programs (e.g. games). Make a partition for each user, etc. It separates the operating system and documents: In case of relocation, simply delete the partition containing Windows. We keep the partition containing the documents and backups. Furthermore different partition makes defragmentation. Instead defragment the entire hard disk, it defragments only the partitions that are most changed. Documents will be the score quickly fragmented (because of the successive records of files) that the partition containing the operating system. Easier it will be but to partition the second drive in Disk Management of Windows and then as a directory to mount the first hard drive instead of a separate drive letter assigned.

It's good to know what different types of applications and partitions for each type there are, before the hard disk is divided. The main partition is the primary partition. This is typically used to install an operating system, in this case Windows. Are there plans a multi-boot system to install, it is necessary and perhaps half the third primary partition.

The C: partition is preferably only for the Windows operating system and installed software. This means that personal information (such as personal documents, music, videos, e-mail, contacts, calendar and favorite web sites) on a separate D: partition can be saved. Each user gets to this partition a separate folder with personal data. When Windows (and other software) of personal data is separated allows a system backup to make (and restore) without taking the risk of data loss.
